Gardens By The Bay: Free Attractions in Singapore

Gardens By The Bay makes you speechless and therefore it’s a must-visit attraction for everyone visiting Singapore. It deserves at least one full day to thoroughly enjoy it and I will tell you why?

I instantly fell in love with this majestic wonderland. Singapore’s Gardens By The Bay is truly a futuristic marvel of human creativity. During my whole journey while travelling to Singapore from Kuala Lumpur by bus I kept browsing the beautiful pictures of this scenic place.

Let me explain how you can plan a wonderful trip to the garden without missing any opportunity to enjoy yourself.

Singapore’s award-winning gardens by the bay span around 250 acres of reclaimed land. It is located right next to Marina Reservoir. The main and unique attraction of these gardens is the “Supertree groves”. There are 18 of these supertrees. Which are individual vertical gardens in themselves. They also work as the air conditioners for the entire garden.

Gardens’ Design:

The gardens are divided into different sections. There are two waterfront gardens, Bay South and Bay East. Bay South is the largest of the gardens and where you will find the award-winning cooled conservatories The Flower Dome and Cloud Forest and iconic Supertrees. There is an entry ticket for the two conservatories.

Bay East Garden is an intricately landscaped area that is more about providing a vast waterfront green space for locals and visitors to enjoy at their leisure. Bay East offers stunning views of Singapore’s beautiful skyline as well as a serene spot to picnic or relax with a quiet walk.

You can find two stunning lakes, Dragonfly and Kingfisher Lakes in the gardens. Both are part of the Gardens’ lake system and an extension of the Marina Reservoir.

Free Attractions:

Supertree Grove Lights and Music Show: The lights and music show is fantastic and it’s all free. Enjoy this amazing show of dancing lights and music at Supertree Grove at 7:45 and 8:45 daily.

Far East Organization Children’s Garden: It’s an outdoor playground and water park filled with features from water tunnels to spray jets that ensure everyone stays cool in humid hot Singapore. It’s all free and the timings are 10:00 am to 6:30 pm

Heritage Gardens: This collection of four themed gardens explores the links between plants and Singapore’s rich history.

Art: Gardens by the Bay is home to more than 40 sculptures from around the world spread throughout the grounds.

OCBC Skywalk: It’s not free, costs S$8 for adults and S$5 for child entry tickets. This is not much for a ticket price for the incredible experience. I would suggest that you must take a tour of this walkway. It gives an amazing view of the gardens from above. Timings 9:00 am to 9:00 pm daily.

Handy Tips for Visiting:

Plan your visit in the evening. That way you can skip the scorching heat of Singapore. Also, you can enjoy the light show and catch the perfect viewing spots.

It takes about two days to fully enjoy the gardens by the beauty of the bay. Plan to visit the flower dome and cloud forest on separate days. The cooled conservatories are huge and if you are with kids then you won’t be able to fully explore them.

Families with young kids must have umbrellas and some snacks. Don’t go hungry and get the local experience by heading to the far end of Gardens by the Bay, walking away from the Marina Bay Sands hotel. In the back corner of the park, you’ll find Satay by the Bay, one of the nicest hawker centers on the island with a huge variety of international offerings.

Keep a water bottle with you and you can refill them from the water fountains installed outside each restroom.
